Feeling Homesick
It has been around seven months since I last slept in my bed in my apartment in Newcastle. It has also been around seven months since I last saw my family, or the friends I have had for many years now. When I first flew out here to Canada I had not given my parents a proper good-bye.
I had overslept the night previous to my departure and I was running late to catch a train that would take me to Manchester airport. My parents were at the station in Newcastle and I did manage to say bye, but it was very rushed as I had to jump on the train straight away.
Since I have arrived in Canada I have met some fantastic people and made plenty of friends. I enjoy being here and I love the more laid back lifestyle that Canadians seem to enjoy. I have enjoyed following Ice Hockey more than anything else and will definitely continue following it wherever I end up.
I have visited some great cities and seen plenty of the sights on offer. Vancouver was amazing and is certainly one of the best places I have ever been to. I even ventured down to the US and went to Seattle, which, much like Vancouver, was a fantastic city. I even managed to pick up some saucony running shoes for about half the price that you can get them back home!
However, despite how much of a good time I have had out here in Canada, I do miss home very much. I won’t be returning home for a couple of months yet so I know I am going to get more and more homesick. However, it will make it more exciting once I do return. I am certainly looking forward to seeing everyone again, especially my family and I look forward to spending some time in my own country once more. Getting away from home is great every so often, but so is returning home after a lengthy break, I can’t wait.
